My Spotify Account Was Hacked!

As an avid music listener, my Spotify account is my life saviour. There will never be a day without me listening to my Spotify playlist, especially to help me sleep at night. I have a few playlists I've made and I usually listen to them accordingly with my mood of the day. A few days ago, I was logged out from my Spotify account and I couldn't log in back, it stated that my account never existed!

I don't know if you can relate to this, but I have a total of 5 emails I use to sign up stuff; 1) official use for my works; 2) official for my studies 3) my blog; 4) social media, online shopping, etc; 5) a backup email. The bad habit of mine, I would only check on only till the 3rd email. This is because the 4th and 5th emails I receive usually weren't that important, it was about promotions, notification on someone like my photos and stuff so it's annoying to check on 'em.

I used the 4th email for my Spotify account. Apparently, I received these emails a day before I got logged out from my Spotify, but since I didn't check on the email, I accidentally allowed them to take my Spotify account.

So, some Russian hacked my Spotify account?

To which I don't understand, so I translated it...

They changed the email address to log in!

I officially lost my Spotify account, I couldn't log in anymore. Fortunately, I subscribed the family plan for my Spotify account, where there's one 'head', and 5 other members and I was not the 'head'. So I just had to ask the 'head' to remove me from the member list and created a new one to add as a member again.

So there was nothing to worry regarding the subscription I might giving free to the hacker. But the 'head' decided to change her Spotify account's password as it's worrying if she was the one that got hacked since her banking details is in that account.

I also got this email on my 4th email yesterday, regarding someone tried to log in to my email account and maybe tried to steal it from me! I think my 4th email is in danger of being hacked, I should change its password.

This time, it's someone from Vietnam?

What I learned from this incident:
1) I should make it a habit to check on all the emails I have everyday though it's annoying and troublesome.
2) I should occasionally change the password to all my online banking, emails, social media, etc for security. We never know!
3) Never save your card or banking details in any applications such as online shopping, hotel or flight booking apps.

I hope you guys could learn this too, change your password!
Have you ever experienced the same incident as me?

Till then,
Lya

  3. scary, nasib baik family acc and no bank details in your account. for this type of subscription, i really hope they create a phone verification to alert login users like in yahoo mail and gmail because sometimes we tend to ignore emails XD

  7. I think Yahoo mail ni security dia lemah sikit. So, any websites or apps tend to be compromised if you signed them up using Yahoo.

  8. It's scary how our life especially banking information is now online but what to do, we still need to use them. I agree with you to frequently change our password. Also don't use the same password for everything.

  10. Sampai 5 email dah kira bahaya juga kalau tak kerap check.
Something similar happened to me before tapi dekat Instagram. nak like gambar orang tak boleh rupanya ada turkish instagram 'like' service (yang beli like dekat instagram tu) hacked my account and to automatically like and follow a lot of turkish instagram shop. dapat tau sebab bila nak like gambar orang dia cakap 'you have reach limits of like' or something like that. Bila check gambar yang di-like, tah hape2 tah semua.

Since that, all my account I changed the password and buat two-factor authentication. Leceh tapi sekurang-kurangnya selamat. Nasib baik lah buat yang family punya ye, kalau tak seronok orang tu.
